Phantogram - Eyelid Movies

Disregard that I haven't posted anything in the past months please, anyway, let's review some music!

Okay, this is one of the seriously underrated albums of 2010. While everyone is creaming their pants over Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti or whatever flavour-of-the-month indie pop rock band is hyped on over at Pitchfork, this album went for the most part unnoticed, and that is a shame. A damn shame.

I discovered this band this past summer, as they were opening for Passion Pit, listened to their album the next day and was instantly in love with their sound. Their delightful mix of trip hop and psych-pop, along with the lead singers angelic voice pave the way for an unforgettable duo, which completely redeems the horrific trend of man-making-all-the-music-while-hot-chick-sings genre (Crystal Castles, Sleigh Bells, She & Him, & others).
This is the kind of album in which every song is different, distinctive in is own way, and yet the all share a warm familiarity with each other. It creates a magnificent blend of delicious music with very high repeatability, hell this albums almost been on repeat on my iTunes since this summer.

Future Islands - In Evening Air

This band would be like any typical new wave revival/indie pop artist, but what sets them apart is the lead singers voice. Imagine this: Captain Beefheart (rest his soul) singing for, oh I don't know, let's say Passion Pit if they slowed themselves down and played on a more serious tone. The result would sound pretty damn similar to this band.
This album is beautifully crafted, with the opening track Walking through that Door setting the tone for the record, track 3, Tin Man where the singer goes all out on his vocal delivery, and the title track In Evening Air which sounds like a song cut from the soundtrack to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. The later tracks all blend perfectly together with tracks like Vireo's Eye and Inch of Dust seamlessly blend melancholy and optimism in pure musical form.

Yet Another Generic Music Based Blog About Music

And what a blog it is! To start off with a bang I've decided to share with my readership (A.K.A you, and only you) my personal favorite album of 2010, Fang Island's self titled sophomore album.

Well I was gonna write a serious review of this record until I realized what I wanted to say was pretty much exactly the same shit Pitchfork gave in their review so instead I'll just bullshit you. Personally I found this record to be like that warm, sunny summer day when you were 8. You know the one when you woke up and th world was full of possibilities, spending your day on all sorts of hobgobbly nonsense, the last track, the slow fading out track feels like when your parents dragged you inside and forced you to bed. Basically, this album is this Calvin and Hobbes strip.
